KNOXVILLE — Joe Osovet was promoted from Director of Programming for Football to tight ends coach in January by Jeremy Pruitt.

Osovet’s contract runs through Jan. 31, 2022.

Three Tennessee assistant coaches (Will Friend, Tee Martin and Brian Niedermeyer) will have their contracts expire following the 2020 season.

Pruitt will also fill an open position after relieving Jimmy Brumbaugh of his duties coaching Tennessee’s defensive line following Week 4 this season.

Osovet has a long history of offensive success in his career and can help Tennessee from a quarterback standpoint during the remainder of this season or in preparation for next.

The current UT tight ends coach came to Tennessee in Feb. 2018 from ASA College where he served as head coach. Osovet served as head coach at Nassau CC (2013-15) before arriving at ASA College from 2016-17.

Osovet is known as the RPO innovator.

In 2001, he started running an offensive scheme called a manipulation.

19 years later, the scheme used to manipulate defenders is the face of offenses throughout the sport of football, as they are now referenced as RPOs.

With the amount of expired contracts and positions to fill following the conclusion of the 2020 season, Pruitt placing Osovet in a role on staff that suits him better is ideal to strengthen Tennessee’s offensive play and development in 2021.
