Walk-on wide receiver Kai Money has seized every opportunity at Texas.
His most notable moment appeared in Texas’ season opener against UTEP. The little-known walk-on pulled in his first touchdown of his collegiate career near the end of the first half.
The sidelines erupted in cheers. “I wish you guys could see the work that Kai Money puts in every singly day,” quarterback Sam Ehlinger stated after the game. “What an incredible team guy. (He) puts the team before himself and works hard every single day. It seems like he’s always open. For that to pay off today, I couldn’t be happier for him.”
It wasn’t just one moment of fame. Money has been relied on heavily this season at the slot position due to the injuries surrounding Jake Smith and Jordan Whittington. He’s now a critical depth piece and has appeared each game for Texas this year.
On Thursday, Money was awarded for his hard work, dedication and resiliency. Texas head coach Tom Herman relayed the exciting news that Money will now be on scholarship.
Congratulations @KaiMoney7 you’re on scholarship! 🤘 pic.twitter.com/z56HMl1izW

The exciting news was announced to the team via the jumbotron shortly after practice concluded. It’s such a feel good story that couldn’t have happened to a more deserving player.
