Former Washington running back Adrian Peterson was probably as surprised as most of the fans were when it was announced that the team was releasing him ahead of the 53-man roster cut as training camp came to an end earlier this year. Though he was slotted to be the primary back after Derrius Guice was cut, Ron Rivera made the decision to ride with the young gun in Antonio Gibson, giving AP a chance to find a new team.
Peterson made his way to Detroit, where he quickly stepped in as a major piece in the offense, and has performed pretty well thus far. But does it still linger with him that he was cast to the side by Washington so quickly before the season?
Adrian Peterson was asked by Detroit media about being cut by Washington: “It was unfortunate, of course, but I didn’t have time to kind of really let it digest and see how much it really sucked. But it is what it is now. I feel like I came to a great situation here in Detroit.”

With a consummate pro like AP, you’re never going to get him to say anything provocative about the situation. He was open about the fact that he was shocked after the fact, but he understood the business about the NFL. Now that he’s in Detroit, with another sub-.500 team, things don’t look much better than they did in Washington, but he would never tell you that. We’ll see how warm the greetings are between him and Rivera this weekend after the game.
