In the final weeks leading up to the 2020 NBA Draft, the rumor mill has started heating up. While a lot of the rumor mill has focused so far on LaMelo Ball potentially slipping in the draft after rumored poor interviews, he still remains a valued prospect.
The Detroit Pistons are apparently interested in trading up in the draft and Ball may be their target for moving up. ESPN’s Eric Woodyard reported on Tuesday the Pistons are considering trading up in the draft.
“Currently holding the No. 7 pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA draft, Detroit Pistons general manager Troy Weaver says that “moving up is definitely an option.
One possible target has been training in the team’s backyard throughout the pandemic: top prospect LaMelo Ball — whose mentor and manager, Jermaine Jackson Sr., is a former Piston and Motown native.”
The Warriors would be the most likely trade candidate in the top three. What it would take to convince Golden State to move down five spots to the No. 7 pick is interesting. Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin are the only two veterans on Detroit that could be remotely interesting to win-now teams but neither are particularly good fits with the Warriors.
Ball’s fit with Detroit would be a terrific one as the Pistons are a franchise entering a rebuild. Landing a player like Ball to start that rebuild would be a huge coup for the Pistons.
