The unlikely hero the Bills never realized they’d be needing was defensive tackle Justin Zimmer on Sunday in their Week 8 meeting against the New England Patriots.
The Bills (6-2) took the 24-21 win, but it didn’t seem all that likely. The Patriots (2-5) were doing what we’ve seen time and time again. Late in the game against Buffalo, they were driving toward the end zone.
At minimum, the Pats were in range for the game-tying field goal with under a minute left… Until Zimmer had something to say about it.
On a rush by quarterback Cam Newton, the defender who was on the team’s practice squad just two weeks ago, tackled him from behind and punched the ball out in the process. Safety Dean Marlowe jumped on it and that was that, the Bills won.
