When a player is from a specific area, it is customary he gets a lot of love from guys who made it from the same area. For Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle, he made the NBA after four very good seasons at Washington and he got a lot of love from a star who hails from that area.
Jamal Crawford has established himself as one of the better scorers in NBA history and a guy who made his reputation as one of the better bench players in the game. He’s won the 6th Man of the Year award three times and he has averaged 14.6 points per game in his career.
Crawford appeared on the Jeremy Mills Podcast to discuss some hoopers from the 2017 CrawsOver Championship game for his Pro Am league in Seattle. When the topic of Thybulle came up, Crawford had some praise for the rookie:
Matisse Thybulle, that was a big summer for Tisse man like he went back to college with a whole different person so that was a huge summer for him to really like take that next step, like, you know what, I’m not far away. You know, when he got drafted that night, he wrote an Instagram post, you can go look it up and he thanked me in the post I’m like, Whoa, like, but it was coming, because I was always in his ear at the Pro Am like nah, you’re gonna lead us in scoring, you know like, we’re gonna follow your lead. You take the take the bull by the horns and go for it. We’re here to support you and it gave him a whole different level of confidence so I was happy for him.
In case anybody wants to see the Instagram post that Crawford was referring to, it can be seen here. It’s always good to have mentors and for Thybulle to have a guy like Crawford in his ear, it can be a good thing for him moving forward. That can bode well for his future in the league.
