Former New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz experienced many things during his career in the NFL and made many memorable catches, but his favorite career play may surprise you.
In a quick stroll down memory lane, here are some highlights from Cruz’s electric career:
However, Cruz’s favorite play wasn’t any of these or the touchdown he caught in the Super Bowl, either.
Cruz recently sat down with Giants Wire and revealed that his favorite catch actually happened in a preseason game — his first ever, actually.
“Oh man. It’s so hard to pick just one. That’s definitely up there the tip one (against the Seahawks) because I still watch that replay all the time and I still don’t even know how I got back to that ball,” Cruz said. “I think for me, it’s the first one. The very, very first one in the preseason against the Jets. You know, I just go back to that moment and I remember it going deaf, like completely numb, my entire body went numb and I just remember feeling like, ‘oh my god, I just did that’ for my first catch in the NFL and I’m going to make this team and I am going to be a wide receiver.
“I literally saw my life 10 years later in that moment and I was just like I want everyone to feel this — every kid, every young player should feel this in their lifetime at some point if they love the game of football and that’s the play that stands out the most to me.”
Even though it was in the preseason, that play highlighted a very impressive training camp for Cruz, which lead to him making the roster. Of course, it wasn’t until the following year that Cruz took off.
Of all the crucial clutch catches (many being touchdowns) Cruz caught, it was the first one in a preseason that stands out to the retired Giant.
