Lonzo Ball’s rap career has been well-documented and has led to him releasing multiple studio albums. He’s earned credibility among fellow NBA rappers in the league and has garnered millions of views and listens on YouTube.

But very little of his music career has been mainstream in the national audience, though that might be changing.

Fox’s show “The Masked Singer” features celebrities dressing up in costumes and singing under anonymous identities. The show has featured athletes in the past like Rob Gronkowski or Victor Oladipo. On Wednesday’s fourth episode of season four, a returning character called Whatchamacallit appeared for the second time this season and lots of signs of the singer’s real identity pointed to Ball.

An animated sequence gave a lot of clues, both obvious and subtle. First, there’s an allusion to the singer nearing the height of his career and being “ready to dance” before a call about his mother “deflated” him. That could be a reference to Ball’s time at UCLA when, just before the NCAA Tournament, his mother Tina suffered a stroke.

There are more subtle hints, like the dimes surrounding the Whatchamacallit character at one point, referring to the assists Ball is known for. After his performance, Whatchamacallit says judge Ken Jeong should know who he is and Jeong is an NBA fan and has been spotted at Laker games.
