The New York Giants (0-2) elevated wide receiver Johnny Holton from the practice squad to the active roster on Saturday ahead of the Week 3 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers (1-1) at MetLife Stadium.
Holton has been brought up for depth and special teams purposes in the wid receiver room. With Sterling Shepard on the injured reserve list with turf toe and special teams ace Cody Core out for the season, Holton could see a few snaps on Sunday.
Holton signed with the Giants on Sept. 2 and eventually was released during roster cuts but re-signed to the practice squad where he has been since cutdown day.
The Giants are 3.5-point home underdogs against the 49ers despite the fact that the latter will be without a number of starters including Jimmy Garoppolo and pass rushers Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas.
