Panthers have best odds to get No. 1 pick through 2 weeks

So, what would the Panthers do if they picked at No. 1?

The Panthers have started the 2020 season 0-2. While there’s still a ton of football left to be played, right now they have the best odds to get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft according to Football Outsiders.

So, what would the Panthers do if they picked at No. 1?

The best choice would likely be to try to find a new franchise quarterback. While Teddy Bridgewater is a solid starter who seems to have a strong grasp of Joe Brady’s offense, he’s not the kind of dynamic passer who can carry a team to a deep playoff run. Bridgewater is also not a signifcant rushing threat.

The top QB prospects in 2021 are Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance.

Another good idea is finding a long-term solution to the team’s issues at left tackle, especially since Russell Okung is 31 years old and in the final year of his contract. Oregon’s Penei Sewell is the top OT prospect in the class.

Then again, a poor defense is the reason they’re losing games. Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II and Miami edge Gregory Roussea could all fill significant needs for that unit.
