Jamie Collins seemed to forget rule No. 1 of arguing with the officials: You don’t touch them. So when he bumped his head against an official — perhaps accidentally — the official immediately ejected the Detroit Lions linebacker from the game.
It seemed that Collins was using the referee to demonstrate a hit using the crown of the helmet in hopes of showing that Bears running back David Montgomery had been leading with his head on the previous play. Had Collins done so without touching the official, the linebacker would’ve been fine. But contact means disqualification and a 15-yard penalty.
So in a strange moment, Collins ended up leaving his Lions’ debut before the first half.

It’s not how Collins or Detroit wanted his debut to go after he signed a three-year, $30-million deal with the team this offseason.
