Texas Longhorns appear in latest College Football Playoff prediction

Senior college football analyst Seth Galina of PFF recently predicted the Texas Longhorns to make the College Football Playoff.

The hype and expectations surrounding the Texas football program appears to be gaining steam.

Led by senior quarterback and Heisman contender Sam Ehlinger, the talent on the roster is clearly evident. However, the Longhorns have experienced consistency issues the last few seasons.

With a newly reshaped coaching staff and several highly-touted recruits joining the fold, can Texas finally put it all together this year? Senior college football analyst Seth Galina of PFF believes Texas will march their way into the College Football Playoff this season.

The four programs that Galina predicted to make the playoff were Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Texas. It’s an odd year due to the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the schedules to more of a conference-only format, but it still won’t be an easy road for the Longhorns.

In order to receive a bid to the college football playoff, Texas will likely need to defeat either Oklahoma or Oklahoma State twice this year. That’s also assuming that the Longhorns can get past potential spoilers such as Iowa State, Baylor and TCU.

Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are widely expected to be the top three teams battling for the Big 12 title. The Cowboys are loaded on offense with playmakers Chuba Hubbard and Tylan Wallace and that game will take place in Stillwater this season.

Eric Metcalf, a former All-American at the University of Texas, recently joined the Locked On Longhorns podcast to discuss his record predictions. He expects Texas to finish the season at 9-1, the lone loss coming from Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma is the top-ranked team in the conference and Texas’ rival gives them a fit each season. Although they have a new and inexperienced quarterback at the helm, the Sooners have one of the top coaches in all of college football. Plus, they’ve won the Big 12 title each of the last five seasons.
