As a part of the new rules amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indianapolis Colts will have the chance to protect four practice squad players from being poached by other teams.
Ahead of their Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Colts opted not to protect any of their practice squad players, per the league’s transaction wire.

Every Tuesday, the Colts will submit four names to the league for practice squad protection. From Tuesday through to the minute the game ends on Sunday, teams are not allowed to contact protected practice squad players. As soon as the game ends on Sunday (in a typical week), players are free to sign with any team that approaches them with an offer.
This cycle begins again on the Tuesday following the team’s latest game and at 4:00 p.m. ET, the protected practice squad once again goes into effect.

As of this writing, the Colts have 15 of 16 spots filled on the practice squad and will likely be adding one more player to the list before the Week 1 opener. But it doesn’t appear any of them will be on the protected list.
