Report: Giants to release CB DeAndre Baker

Giants are parting ways with the former first-round pick.

The New York Giants are reportedly set to release embattled cornerback DeAndre Baker this week.

Baker, a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, was charged with four counts of armed robbery and other related charges stemming from an incident in May in Miramar, Florida. That landed him on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, where he is going to stay until at least January when his case is set to move forward.

Baker’s uniform number 27 has already reassigned by the Giants to cornerback Isaac Yiadom, who the team traded a seventh-round selection to Denver last week for.

Baker was the 30th pick in the 2019 draft out of Georgia and struggled to pick up defense coordinator James Bettcher’s system until very late in the season.

He was slated to battle Sam Beal for one of the outside corner spots this summer at training camp, but his legal issues keep him away. Beal didn’t make it, either, as he opted out of this season due to coronavirus concerns. Beal’s number 23 was also reassigned – to free agent defensive back Logan Ryan on Monday.
