The Kansas City Chiefs have officially signed former Miami Dolphins center Daniel Kilgore and made a corresponding roster move according to today’s transaction report.
We first got word that the Chiefs would to sign Kilgore a week ago. Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor reported the team had brought him in for a tryout and intended to sign him following mandatory COVID-19 screening. Kilgore got the all-clear on his screening and had his tryout with the team just the other day. He’s now officially joined the team with training camp coming to a close over the weekend.
The 32-year-old center is going into his tenth NFL season. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Appalachian State. He was traded to Miami in 2018. He started a total of 17 games at center over the course of two seasons with the Dolphins.
In a corresponding move, the Chiefs have waived linebacker Emmanuel Smith with an injury designation. Smith suffered a hamstring injury in practice recently and sat out the past two practices. Smith first joined the Chiefs’ practice squad at the start of the 2019 season and signed a reserve/future deal to return to the team in 2020. The 6-4 and 240-pound linebacker spent his rookie season in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If he clears waivers he will revert to the injured reserve list for Kansas City.
