Report: Ravens to release or trade Earl Thomas

After a fight at training camp, the Baltimore Ravens are set to either trade or cut veteran safety Earl Thomas.

Apparently the Baltimore Ravens have had enough of safety Earl Thomas’ antics. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens will be either trading or releasing Thomas today.

The decision comes after Thomas had gotten into a heated argument with fellow safety Chuck Clark at Friday’s training camp practice. Thomas threw a punch before the pair were separated by teammates with Thomas ultimately being sent home by the team, missing Saturday’s practice. This isn’t the first instance of Thomas getting a little too heated with his own teammates either. Thomas and defensive tackle Brandon Williams nearly got into a fight following a Week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Thomas also made headlines this offseason after an alleged altercation with his wife.

The decision to move on from Thomas comes as a bit of a shock still. Thomas was having a solid training camp and had been earning rave reviews from coach John Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Don Martindale. Thomas was said to be in better shape than this time last year and was “going 100 miles per hour,” according to Martindale. With no clear player to replace Thomas at free safety, the move will open up another competition at training camp and puts a bit of a dent in a secondary that had the makings to be the best in the league.
