Oklahoma is reportedly not enthusiastic about continuing on with the college football season.
Per a report from Sports Illustrated and Mark Blaudshun, the Sooners are “leaning against the sentiment of its brethren who want to continue with the season.”
The article initially explains a plan to continue with college football by reducing the student body and put players in a ‘semi-secluded environment.’ The ACC is heavily in favor of the proposal, and other conference could soon follow.
With that as the precursor, Blaudshun then spoke on Oklahoma’s wariness.
“Normally this would result in a stalemate,” he wrote. “The reason such a plan may have some legs is that eliminating Oklahoma opens the conference race for the other teams, even more so if Texas stumbles.”
He also explained that Texas is ready to continue with or without their rivals in the conference.
Head coach Lincoln Riley has been transparant and honest throughout the pandemic, and has advocated for player safety. However, not continuing on with football proposes a big problem for Oklahoma financially.
The Sooners are scheduled to begin their season on September 12 against Missouri State, barring any changes.
