New York Giants Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan has offered up his game-worn Super Bowl XLII jersey for auction, according to Goldin Auctions. It is expected to garner a small ransom.
This jersey was worn by Strahan during Super Bowl XLII and was the last Giants’ jersey ever worn by him in his Hall of Fame career.
The current bid at the time of this writing is $39,000.
The Giants defeated the previously undefeated New England Patriots, 17-14, in Super Bowl XLII, which is one of the most stunning championship game upsets in NFL history.
Strahan, the Giants’ defensive captain, had two tackles and a key sack in the game, which turned out to be final one in his 15-year career — all with the Giants.
There is no mention of where the proceeds of the sale of the jersey will end up. It is assumed that Strahan, who earned $76 million in his football career and is reportedly worth $65 million, will donate the proceeds to charity.
Strahan is currently still battling his ex-wife in court over back child support and other outstanding payments. His current income from his job as a host on ABC’s Good Morning America and FOX Sports, along with other media appearances and endorsements is reported to be around $17 million per annum.
