“She said I should go play and give all the money I made there back to the community,” Jrue said. “That way I can be with my team and feel like I’m still doing something to help people in need. I thought it was a brilliant idea.” They comprised a plan to donate Jrue’s remaining salary for the rest of the season — around $5 million of his annual $26 million compensation— to programs they felt could make the biggest impact: Black-owned businesses, nonprofit organizations and schools that serve Black and Brown communities.
