Matchups between the two this season
The Thunder and Jazz split their first two meetings this season with the Jazz scoring a 100-95 victory in Salt Lake City on opening night. The Thunder would avenge the loss and defeat the Jazz in their second meeting of the season. Despite the contest once again happening in Salt Lake City, the Thunder walked away with a 104-90 victory.
The third contest, though, is quite infamous.
Back on March 11, at Chesapeake Arena, in the moments before the teams were to tip-off their third and final meeting of the season, Rudy Gobert was learned to have tested presumptive positive for coronavirus. The nearly five-month-long season shutdown immediately followed.
Now, on Aug. 1, the teams will finally lock horns for the third time this season.
The Thunder will have all players available, while the Jazz will be missing their second-leading scorer in Bojan Bogdanovic, who had season-ending surgery on his right wrist back in May.
For Billy Donovan’s team, Saturday’s contest will be their first regular season game since March. The Jazz, on the other hand, were one of four teams in action on Thursday night when the NBA officially resumed its 2019-20 season.
Led by 23 points off the bench from Jordan Clarkson, the Jazz narrowly pulled off a 106-104 victory after Brandon Ingram (23 points) missed a game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer.
Utah will obviously be hoping for a similar result in its second seeing game. Chris Paul and company? Not so much.
