The New York Giants are eager to show off their new secondary, even if it means not having cornerback DeAndre Baker, who is still dealing with his legal issues. The Giants have plenty of other young players who are seeking to make their mark.
Baker was the favorite to start at corner across from free agent signee James Bradberry, but his involvement in a home assault and robbery incident is clouding his future at the moment. In his absence, the Giants will move forward until he is past his ordeal.
A slew of prospects will be vying for the open spot should Baker miss time. Sam Beal, Corey Ballentine, rookie Chris Williamson and journeymen Montre Hartage and Rashaan Gaulden will all get reps in camp later this month.
One other player, fourth round draft pick Darnay Holmes, is slated to be a slot or nickel corner, but he could also emerge as a possibility to start.
Holmes is working out with current Giants safety Jabrill Peppers this summer wearing their old school helmets.

Peppers will be one starter at safety but the other safety spot is up for grabs. Second-year player Julian Love is currently penciled in as the starter but he’ll be challenged by this year’s second round pick, Xavier McKinney of Alabama, who is widely considered to be one of the steals of this year’s draft.
This is all good news for the Giants. They now have options in their secondary, a unit that has been less than up to snuff the past few years. Baker himself was a liability early on in his rookie season before turning his season around in the final few games.
