An unparalleled asset in the Mountain West.
Utah State might be without a NFL-worthy quarterback heading into 2020, but the Aggies still have one of the best specialists in the nation, kick returner Savon Scarver, who is once again our preseason selection as the premier player of the year on special teams.
Though he wasn’t an all-American selection like he was in 2018, Scarver was far and away the best kickoff return specialist in the conference last fall, averaging nearly two full yards more per return than the next-best qualifying player and finishing 12th overall in the FBS with 27.9 yards per return.
On top of that, he was the only player in the FBS to have multiple kickoff return touchdowns in both 2018 and 2019. Another season on that level would earn him a share of the all-time NCAA record that’s currently shared by four players (including former San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny), so he remains a must-watch athlete who could take it to the house every time he touches the football.
Also received votes: Matt Araiza, San Diego State; Elijah Lilly, New Mexico; Ryan Stonehouse, Colorado State; Brandon Talton, Nevada; Avery Williams, Boise State
