The NFL and players union want the 2020 regular season to go off without a hitch. That starts with training camps at the end of July. On Thursday, that notion went over a speed bump, according to a report.

Per the NFLPA via NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, as of last Friday, 72 players in the league tested positive for COVID-19. That translates to approximately 2.5 percent of players.

With some rookies and select players set to report to training camps as soon as this Saturday, the NFLPA and the NFL are quickly running out of time to finalize all the protocols to ensure a safe reopening for the start of the season. Among the sticking points between the two sides is a possible opt-out policy for players.

Just earlier this week, Buffalo’s sixth-round pick, wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins, posted a video on his social media accounts that he’s already arrived in Orchard Park ahead of training camp. There’s no current reports of Bills players having tested positive for the virus.
