Making the jump from college to the NBA is a big one. At one moment, you are just hanging out in your dorm and doing homework and the next minute you are off to the most competitive basketball league in the world and you have to adjust to a faster speed of the game.
For Philadelphia 76ers rookie Matisse Thybulle, he had to deal with all of that as well as people knowing who he is. He talked with the Sixers’ official website’s Lauren Rosen to discuss his adjustment to people actually recognizing who he was.
Thybulle on the adjustment:
“When I first got to Philly, people recognized me. I hadn’t even put on a Philadelphia 76ers jersey, and people were recognizing me. I was like, ‘This is crazy.’ And then it just got bigger and bigger from there.
“I think more than anything, I’ve had to learn how to adapt to being an NBA player, and a celebrity to some people. That’s been weird for me because I’ve never been that, at any stage of my career. I’ve never viewed myself that way. I still don’t view myself that way. But now it’s about accepting, okay, there are some people who actually think of me in this light, and how can I use that to help inspire?
Thybulle has been able to use his platform in a big way as he and Tobias Harris participated in a few Black Lives Matter movements in Philadelphia. He continues to grow as a person and as a player and it will be interesting to see how he performs when the season in Orlando. [lawrence-related id=33254,33248,33232]
