Giants named among ‘best fits’ for Colin Kaepernick

The New York Giants are listed among the “best fits” for free-agent quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, who could make his NFL return in 2020.

The New York Giants already have a fairly crowded quarterback room with starter Daniel Jones and potential backups Colt McCoy, Cooper Rush and Alex Tanney, but could they possibly consider adding Colin Kaepernick?

Mike Sando of The Athletic seems to think so. He listed the Giants as one of the “best fits” for the free-agent quarterback and believes Big Blue should pursue Kaepernick.

New York Giants: Colt McCoy is backing up Daniel Jones. McCoy has started seven games over the past eight seasons. He has five touchdown passes with seven interceptions in those games, with a 1-6 record.

It isn’t clear if Kaepernick would be open to taking a clear backup role upon his return to the NFL, but that’s exactly the situation he’d be stepping into in New York with Jones being the franchise quarterback.

At this point, McCoy should be considered the favorite to be the No. 2 man behind Jones with 40 career games (28 starts) under his belt, which is more than Tanney and Rush combined.

However, Kaepernick could certainly give McCoy a run for his money and them some if he were brought into the mix — that is, if he’s still capable of playing at the kind of level he once did prior to his three-season layoff.
