Reggie Bush is considered a college football legend. The running back from USC won the Heisman in 2005, which was later vacated, and his collegiate career is still talked about today.
Bush was a guest on Fox Sport’s college football program yesterday to rank running backs from across the country as we get closer to the 2020 college football season.
At the top of Bush’s list sits Alabama’s Najee Harris, and he has plenty of reasons to back up his claim.
“I like Najee Harris because he is the most complete running back out of all the backs we just listed,” Bush says. “When I turn on the fly, and I watch this guy, he reminds me of a more athletic Derrick Henry. And if you think about that, that’s absolutely scary, because this man is six-two about 230 pounds.
With his larger stature, the comparison to fellow Alabama product Derrick Henry is clearly visible. However, Harris’ athleticism is something that one can’t ignore when watching his tape, as Bush admits.
Bush then continues to get into the specifics of Harris’ game that makes him so unique,
“He is shifty, which I didn’t realize. You see him muscling guys, jumping over people,” says Bush. “This dude is 230 pounds, He’s as big as just about any starting ‘Mike linebacker’ in the NFL right now, and he’s doing all of this in the SEC. So he’s a grown man playing in a big boy conference.”
In 2019 Harris racked up 1,224 yards on the ground from 209 carries for 13 touchdowns and included seven more touchdowns and 304 yards receiving.
Harris has had his name mentioned when discussing the 2020 Heisman award. Recently quarterbacks have been the ones to have their eyes zeroed in and it hasn’t been since 2015 when a non-quarterback was named the recipient. It was none other than Derrick Henry.
There’s no hesitation in Bush’s voice when he makes the claim that Harris may have what it takes.
“I think if he plays well enough, I think he can win the Heisman trophy,” Bush says.
