If there ever was a crucial year for one of the Washington Redskins’ most historic and beloved players to have a solid campaign and still prove himself as one of the best rushers in the NFL, this is it.
After Washington drafted DE Chase Young in the first-round of the 2020 draft, Kerrigan has seemingly been relegated to a backup role on the defense, with everyone assuming that Young will step in and be an instant playmaker. This may be the case, but it doesn’t have to mean that Kerrigan won’t serve a significant role going forward as well.
On Thursday, the Redskins’ Iron Man sat down with media members via a video call and discussed his future with the team, the changes he’s seen already under Ron Rivera, and just what he expects to come in 2020. Here are the best quotes from the conference.

Now Ryan Kerrigan joins us.
Says he wants to be with the Redskins for the remainder of his career. Has talked to Rivera but they haven't met yet (covid). Says they know where he stands.

The #Redskins have Montez Sweat and Chase Young, but Kerrigan still wants to be a big part of the defense. He’s most excited to work in the 4-3 scheme, which will be a first for him.

The rotation of the defensive line has been a question for months now, but Kerrigan isn’t worried about that. The way he sees it, all of that will sort itself out in time. #Redskins

Ryan Kerrigan says Redskins fans should be very excited about Chase Young. Kerrigan adds if we was in charge he would have taken Chase Young with the second overall pick too

For the first time in years Kerrigan isn't the face of the defense heading into camp — and he says that's justified because things change and there are all kinds of talented young players. Says he absolutely would have drafted Chase Young second overall.

Kerrigan doesn’t know what a reasonable expectation for the defense is since they haven’t worked together yet. But he does say that the #Redskins definitely have talent. But being good on paper will only go so far, he said. They have to get on the field and prove it.

Ryan Kerrigan had to get creative with his 55 pound dumbbells because they weren't heavy enough. I, for one, can't relate to that

Ryan Kerrigan just said that pushing a car "isn't that bad. It's not the weight, it's more the distance." Pushing a car.
