Report: Giants not actively looking to replace DeAndre Baker

The New York Giants are not actively looking to replace CB DeAndre Baker, who was arrested and accused of an armed robbery in mid-May.

Who will the New York Giants acquire or sign to replace second-year cornerback DeAndre Baker, who is currently in the midst of a legal battle after being accused of armed robbery last month?

Well… Apparently no one.

Despite the uncertain nature of Baker’s future, which could include an NFL suspension under the personal conduct policy even if his case is thrown out, the Giants are content with what they have and seem to expect Baker back.

Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports that the Giants are not actively looking to replace Baker and even if he is suspended, are willing to bank on the development of their young secondary to plug any holes.

The Giants are not actively shopping or even signaling contingent interest at the top of the cornerback market, multiple league sources told The Post.

As the Broward County (Fla.) prosecutor’s office decides whether to pursue a case against Baker on four counts of armed robbery and four counts of aggravated assault, the Giants are not overreacting to plug a roster hole that might not exist in late July. The quiet is an unspoken commitment to the development of a young secondary.

There are several intriguing options still out there if the Giants wanted to dip their toe into the water, including Logan Ryan, Brandon Carr, Dre Kirkpatrick and Darqueze Dennard. But, at least for now, if Baker does need to be replaced, it will come by way of Corey Ballentine, Sam Beal, Dravon Askew-Henry or Grant Haley.

Baker was arrested and charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm stemming from an alleged robbery in mid-May. He has since pleaded “not guilty” and is out on $200,000 bond.

The Giants have advised Baker to stay away from team meetings and instead focus on his case, which his attorneys expect to be dropped in the very near future.
