Over the weekend, most of the country mourned the death of George Floyd and expressed their frustration through protests around the nation. Michigan State’s leaders have been issuing statements and sharing their thoughts on racism, police brutality, and unity since the death of Floyd. First with the Spartans football coach Mel Tucker, then Tom Izzo, and late on Sunday night Women’s Basketball head coach Suzy Merchant issued her statement on the protests.
You can read Merchant’s post here, which she tweeted late on Sunday:

Coach Merchant’s statement included a powerful quote from Nelson Mandela. The voices of coaches, or the absence of those voices, has been a sub-topic over the weekend. It is a point of pride for Michigan State fans and alumni that their three most high-profile coaches have all made statements on the tragic events.
