Tennessee Titans land wide receiver in B/R’s 2004 NFL re-draft

What if the Titans had taken Roy Williams instead?

The Tennessee Titans have made a host of favorable selections throughout past drafts, along with a number of selections they probably wish they could have back.

In the 2004 NFL Draft, the Titans traded out of the first round in exchange for picks in the second, third and fourth rounds. They also swapped picks with the Houston Texans in the fifth round.

But what if the team had taken a first-round pick, and landed former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Roy Williams instead?

That’s what Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report had the Titans doing in his re-draft for that year.

“For what it’s worth, Tennessee missed the playoffs by one game in 2006, which was Williams’ best season as a pro,” he wrote. “The original top-10 pick made the Pro Bowl with more than 1,300 yards that year, while the Titans’ leading receiver, Drew Bennett, caught 46 passes for 737 yards and three touchdowns.”

Williams was selected instead by the Detroit Lions at seventh overall.

It’s interesting to think about what could have been for the Titans’ receiving corps. and passing game overall if the they would have made this hypothetical scenario a reality, especially considering Williams spent some time with quarterback Vince Young at Texas.

But instead, we’ll be left forever wondering about what could have been.
