How the Rams’ Super Bowl odds have changed throughout the offseason

The Rams’ Super Bowl odds are on the decline after undergoing a lot of changes this offseason.

Each team undergoes changes every year. It’s the inevitable nature of the NFL – and of professional sports, really. The salary cap puts a restriction on every team’s ability to keep its players from year to year, while free agency and the draft lead to newcomers on the roster.

The Los Angeles Rams are no strangers to turnover, experiencing a lot of that in 2017 when Sean McVay took over. But this offseason has involved a different type of change. The team cut Todd Gurley and Clay Matthews, declined Nickell Robey-Coleman’s option, traded Brandin Cooks, lost Cory Littleton and Dante Fowler Jr., and watched Eric Weddle retire.

All of those moves are going to have an impact on the team’s Super Bowl odds, and unfortunately for the Rams, they’ve decreased their chances – at least in the eyes of the oddsmakers.

After Super Bowl LIV, the Rams had the 10th-best odds to win it all next season at +2000, according to BetMGM – tied with the Vikings and Cowboys. Since then, their odds have worsened.

Before the draft, the Rams’ odds were +2500, as of April 12. That was an implied probability of 3.85%. Coming out of the draft, Los Angeles is an even bigger longshot to win the Super Bowl next season.

As of Sunday morning, the Rams are +3000, or 30/1, to win it all. That’s tied for the 14th-best odds in the NFL, putting them right in the middle of the pack. That’s tied with the Bills and Titans, and behind the Colts (+2500).

McVay’s team is trending in the wrong direction and with most of the offseason work in the books, it’s going to be incredibly difficult for the Rams to make any more notable changes to their roster. Not to mention, they have almost no cap space, sitting on $419,169, according to Over The Cap.

Of course, Super Bowl odds aren’t an exact indicator of how a team’s season will go, but it does give a sense of how sportsbooks view their outlook in an upcoming season.
