It was a slow start, but the 2020 NFL Draft had a little bit of everything for the Michigan football contingent. And ultimately, the Wolverines ended up with a solid haul, with 10 players selected — the second-most behind LSU with 14, and tied with Ohio State.
Despite being looked at as a player who could sneak into the first-round according to most mock drafts, the outlook for Cesar Ruiz increased significantly in the days leading up to the April 23 coverage. Ultimately, those who saw him as a mid-to-late pick ended up being right, with Ruiz being picked at No 24 overall by the Saints.
Day Two only saw one Wolverine selected, with Josh Uche going near the tail-end of the second-round to the Patriots. But Day Three was chock full of maize and blue, with a staggering amount of Michigan players being selected, including the two draft eligible players who didn’t get combine invites — Michael Danna and Jordan Glasgow — get the call anyhow.
Additionally, all four offensive linemen in the draft were selected, a huge boon for OL coach Ed Warinner, who truly turned around the unit from where it had been previous to his tenure. Before he arrived, while players such as Mason Cole and Taylor Lewan had their names called, more often than not, those up front on offense had to try their hand in the undrafted free agent market. It’s the first time in the common draft era that four OL were selected from one team.
