With their sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the New York Giants addressed yet another position of need when they selected Cam Brown, an outside linebacker out of Penn State.
Brown is the sixth addition the Giants have selected in this year’s draft so far. Brown is the third defensive player for the Giants, while the other three have all been offensive linemen.
Many took to twitter to share their thoughts on the pick:
Welcome to Big Blue, Cam Brown!

Cam Brown has to be the most athletic off ball linebacker the #Giants have drafted in at least a decade right?

Cam Brown is the 142nd ranked player on @PFF’s Board and the 11th ranked linebacker.
“With Brown, you’re betting on his athletic traits translating at the next level, and that’s not a bad bet considering how fluid he is at his size.”

#Giants draft Penn State LB Cam Brown No. 183 overall in the sixth round. 6-5, 233-pound senior. Long, fast, athletic, projected special teamer who had 72 tackles at linebacker as a senior. Another Senior Bowler.

Cam Brown is long (6-foot-5 and lean (233 pounds). Has some pass rush potential but only 5 career sacks at Penn State.

Pro and con from the Draft Guide:
+ all the athletic traits to be a TE eraser
– balance is an issue, 15 missed tackles in 2019.

the #Giants picked Penn State linebacker Cam Brown with the No. 183 overall pick. he had some interesting things to say last month about his role in today's NFL https://t.co/d7cViVWPSO

Cam Brown plays fast, with a lot of athleticism, but is a bit raw. Was a strong leader on the Nittany Lions’ defense. His versatility being able to play inside linebacker or off the edge is likely something that drew the #Giants to take him here. #PennState

#Giants getting a very smart, versatile and athletic backer in Cam Brown. I was at his game vs Maryland, and his ability to be an overhang defender really stood out to me. He also has upside as a POA player too

#Giants getting Cam Brown is something I’ve wanted in these later rounds. He is a sideline to sideline LB. Has some work to do, but there is real potential here.

Brown’s Penn State roots will have a lot of people knowing his name. Plus, it’s someone stud running back Saquon Barkley probably knows personally:
LB Cam Brown to #NYG in 6th round. Yay! #WeAre

Had the Patriots not traded up to pick ahead of the Giants the pick could have looked a little different:
The Patriots just traded up to 182, right in front of the Giants, and took Michigan G Michael Onwenu.
That's the second time today a team traded up one spot ahead of the Giants to take a guard (and a guard I'm pretty sure they liked).
