With the 118th pick in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos selected Missouri tight end Albert Okwuegbunam.
Okwuegbunam (6-5, 258 pounds) ran a 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds at the combine earlier this offseason. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared Okwuegbunam to Mark Andrews and projected that he could be a third-round pick, so this seems like good value for the Broncos.
“He’s not a physical blocker and is better suited as a move tight end,” Zierlein wrote of Okwuegbunam on NFL.com before the draft. “Scouts question his overall toughness as a player, but the potential is very high, which makes him a classic boom-or-bust prospect.”
During his three seasons at Missouri, Okwuegbunam caught 98 passes for 1,187 yards and 23 touchdowns. He will be reunited with quarterback Drew Lock in Denver. Lock threw 17 touchdown passes to Okwuegbunam from 2017-2018 while they were teammates in college.
Okwuegbunam will likely compete with Nick Vannett for the Broncos’ No. 2 tight end job behind starter Noah Fant, a first-round pick in 2019.
