With the New York Giants’ third pick (No. 99 overall) in this year’s draft, they again addressed the offensive line again by selecting UConn Offensive Tackle Matt Peart.
That’s right, another hog molly for general manager Dave Gettleman.
This selection was a compensation pick that Big Blue received for losing Landon Collins in free agency to the Washington Redskins. This was the Giants lone 3rd round pick after they traded what ended up being the 68th pick to the Jets in the middle of the 2019 season for Leonard Williams.

The Giants took Matt Peart (UConn) with the 99th overall pick. Picking for value at this point. Developmental tackle with talent, athleticism and size. Has great length. His 36 5/8-inch arms were the longest of all O-linemen at the combine.

6'6, long arms, athleticism, a lot of people loved him as a developmental OT. This is the RIGHT direction for them. Instead of dumping these picks on skill players, build OL with developmental picks.

Matt Peart (6’7, 315lbs) run blocking grade went from 70.7 in 2018 to 90.1 in 2019.

Both Dave Gettleman and Joe Judge stressing Pearl's athleticism, length, and upside. Gettleman said "Sizable ceiling." Judge said he is "developing" and his best football is ahead of him.

To clarify: Yes, they could put Thomas at LT right away and move Solder to RT. Either or is an option. Point being, they got a starting OT in Thomas to pair with Solder for the immediate future, and then Peart comes in down the line when he’s ready and Solder is gone.
