Everyone could see on television could see that coach and general manager Bill O’Brien was not happy prior to the selection of Florida outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard.
On the live “war room” feed of O’Brien’s setup at home in Houston, the feed caught the seventh-year coach gesticulating at the phones and mouthing to a person named “Jack,” presumably executive vice president of player personnel Jack Easterby, about the situation. The reaction made believe that O’Brien was reacting to a situation outside of his control, which is strange because, as general manager, he has more control than he’s ever had since being hired as coach in 2014.

According to the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain, O’Brien was upset that a potential trade with the Detroit Lions had fallen through. The Texans, who were at 90th overall, had a deal in place with Detroit to move down. However, according to McClain, the Lions backed out at the last moment and it infuriated O’Brien.
Texans had a deal with Detroit for the 90th pick but Lions backed out at last instant and Bill O’Brien was furious. You could tell by his reaction on TV. They selected OLB Jonathan Greenard with their pick.

Texans fans are hopeful that Greenard will soon make O’Brien forget all about the potential deal they had in place. Greenard will also get a chance in 2020 to make the Lions wish they had pulled off the trade with Houston and not let the Texans land him.
