Rams select Utah S Terrell Burgess with 104th pick in 2020 NFL Draft

The Rams add to their secondary with the pick of Terrell Burgess.

With their final pick of Friday night, the Los Angeles Rams dipped back into the pool of defensive prospects. At No. 104 overall in the third round, the Rams selected Utah defensive back Terrell Burgess.

They made good use of this compensatory pick, adding a versatile defensive back who can play safety and cornerback at the next level. Some have compared him to Tyrann Mathieu, though with less athleticism and not as much college production.

Burgess won’t be a Day 1 starter for the Rams, who already have Taylor Rapp and John Johnson at safety, but he could compete at nickel cornerback right off the bat. Nickell Robey-Coleman is no longer on the roster, and Burgess has the man-coverage ability to line up in the slot.

Last season, he made 81 tackles (7.5 for a loss), picked off one pass and had five PBU. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com compared Burgess to Damarious Randall, lauding his versatility in the secondary.
