49ers first-round pick Javon Kinlaw might already have decided on a jersey number with his new team. It’s the same number worn by the player he’ll be replacing along the defensive line.
On Friday, Kinlaw posted an edited photo on Instagram of himself in a 49ers uniform. He was wearing jersey No. 99 in the picture, and captioned it, “It’s 99 ways to get this money. Choose one.”
DeForest Buckner, who was traded to the Colts in exchange for the No. 13 pick that became Kinlaw, wore 99 for all four of his seasons in San Francisco. If Kinlaw does decide on No. 99, he’d become the fourth consecutive first-round pick to wear it. The number belonged to Aldon Smith before Buckner, and Manny Lawson before that.
Kinlaw at South Carolina wore No. 99 his first two years before switching to No. 3 in his final season. If his Instagram post was any indication, he’ll go back to his original college number in the NFL.
