Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs to the New York Giants has been, by far, the most popular pick in most of the final mock drafts across the NFL landscape. However, Charley Casserly of NFL.com is not buying into that hype.
Although Casserly has the Giants landing an offensive tackle at No. 4 overall, he believes it will be Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr.
A right tackle at Alabama, Wills comes in as a Day 1 starter and many believe he will play A LOT of snaps.
Wills has been the second most popular mock to the Giants behind Wirfs, and that would seem to make sense given head coach Joe Judge’s connections to Nick Saban and Alabama.
With Pro Days and in-person visits largely shut down due to the coronavirus, the Giants — and all 31 other NFL teams — have had to rely heavily on information from trusted sources and their incoming head coaches who had recent experience at the college level.
In all likelihood, the Giants have amassed more information on Wills than any other offensive tackle prospect in the draft. Whether or not that is enough to pull the trigger at No. 4 remains to be seen.
