Plenty of NFL players were overlooked in some capacity during their NFL Draft years, selected lower than they might have hoped for and eventually transformed into stars at the next level. Tom Brady’s is arguably the most famous story with the GOAT quarterback being drafted in the sixth round as the No. 199 overall pick.
But Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is in that category too — though not quite as overlooked as people like Brady. And on Thursday, the first day of the 2020 NFL Draft, the seven-time Pro Bowler took to Twitter to call out some of the people who pushed the narrative that he wasn’t a strong draft pick out of Wisconsin and was more committed to playing baseball anyway.
Wilson highlighted quotes and tweets from before the 2012 NFL Draft — when he was selected in the third round as the No. 75 overall pick — arguing against him having any sustained success in the league.
Clearly, he hasn’t forgotten what some people thought of him.

It also appears Wilson got an an assist from the famous Twitter account @OldTakesExposed, which has been sharing “Freezing Cold Takes” from about players and past NFL Drafts.
Thursday morning, the account shared some old comments about Wilson from before and after he was drafted, and it looks like that helped Wilson call out his past haters, tweeting about 90 minutes later.

Now obviously, no one can predict the future, and it’s not always clear which players are poised for extraordinary success at the next level. But Wilson is here to remind people on the first day of the 2020 NFL Draft that he was overlooked, and it worked out just fine.
