After seeing the news of Rob Gronkowski coming out of retirement to reunite with Tom Brady, former Chiefs and Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez jokingly posted on social media that he’s coming out of retirement, too.
“I saw Gronk talking about coming back and I said to myself, ‘Hey, me too, baby,'” Gonzalez said in a video posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday. The NFL’s official Instagram account re-shared the video.
Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller saw the post and commented that he would love for a 44-year-old Gonzalez to try to block him these days.
Miller’s jab was clearly meant to be a good-natured remark because he also commented a goat emoji below the video, an indication that he views Gonzalez as the greatest tight end of all time.
To be fair to Gonzalez, if he did unretire, he probably wouldn’t be asked to do much blocking. In 25 games against Denver, Gonzalez caught 101 receptions for 1,186 yards and eight touchdowns. His 15,127 career receiving yards rank first among tight ends in NFL history.
