Duke point guard Tre Jones mocked to Sixers in latest mock drafts

The Philadelphia 76ers are linked to Duke point guard Tre Jones in the latest mock draft.

The NBA is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic and nobody knows when it will return. The only thing we do know is that according to Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, the league will return at some point.

Until then, we find other ways to talk about some basketball. For example, the NBA Draft is always a good talking point for everybody and there is a new player linked to the Sixers in these latest mock drafts.

Bryan Kalbrosky over at our sister site, Rookie Wire, has put together his latest full mock draft and for the Philadelphia 76ers, he has them selecting a point guard. At 22 overall, the team has options, and Duke’s Tre Jones is the selection here.

The 76ers have suffered from a lack of depth in their backcourt behind Ben Simmons. But selecting Duke point guard Tre Jones would be an immediate answer to this problem. Jones, who won ACC Player of the Year and ACC Defensive Player of the Year, is arguably the best defensive point guard in this draft class. This will help earn him playing time right away in big moments. Plus, he is able to be a floor general and lead the offense when Simmons is not on the court.

The Sixers have been looking to fix the backup point guard spot for a long time. They thought they had it figured out with Raul Neto and Trey Burke, but Neto has been in and out of the rotation and Burke was released to help facilitate the trade to acquire Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III. Shake Milton has been a good option, but he’s more of a shooting guard with his ability to score more than distribute.

Jones averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 36.1% from deep in his sophomore season. While being named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and he was also named to the All-ACC Team as well. He would be an upgrade at the backup position and the Sixers would be able to keep the offense flowing when Simmons is off the floor.  [lawrence-related id=28707,28697,28690]
