CB Chris Harris Jr. believes Chargers have defense to win AFC West

Newly acquired Chris Harris Jr. has high expectations for him and his new team.

Cornerback Chris Harris Jr. stayed within the AFC West, leaving the Broncos for the Chargers where he was signed this past week.

While Los Angeles finished in last place in the division in 2019, Harris believes that it will be the defense that will carry them to first place this upcoming season.

“It’s always tough when you play the Chiefs, but I know we’ve got a defense that definitely should be in the top and you’ve got to be able to slow them down,” Harris said.

“I know we’ve got offensive guys with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, (Austin) Ekeler, Hunter Henry, so I know we’ve got talent on offense, and we’ll figure out what we’re gonna do that way.

“But I know (with) defense, we’ve got definitely a chance to win the AFC West.”

Harris said his ultimate goal is to win a Super Bowl with the Bolts.

The acquisition of the four-time Pro Bowler bolstered a defense that ranked No. 6 in the league last season.

The Chiefs have won the division the past four seasons, which has been accomplished primarily with their high-powered offense.

In order to stay toe-to-toe with Kansas City, Los Angeles’ defense has been to be above par.

And with the acquisitions of Harris and defensive tackle Linval Joseph, it should be a boost that features the likes of defensive ends Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, cornerback Casey Hayward, safety Derwin James and linebacker Drue Tranquill.

The offensive side of the ball should be in good hands, even with Tyrod Taylor and potentially a rookie under center with the weapons like wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, tight end Hunter Henry and running back Austin Ekeler.

Los Angeles has been favored to make it to the Super Bowl the past few seasons, but have failed to meet expectations. If the team nails the draft and manages to stay healthy during the regular season, they could be in good position to snap a 10-year drought of being AFC West champions.
