Joe Schobert is now a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The linebacker agreed to terms with the Jaguars on a $53.75 million deal over five years, more than the Browns were willing to pay their leading tackler and top cover LB over the last four seasons.
Schobert was aware he wouldn’t be back in Cleveland, that he had priced his way out of what the new regime led by Andrew Berry was willing to pay for his services. He understands the business side of football.
“I have no bad feelings, no animosity toward Cleveland or the Browns,” Schobert told the Akron Beacon-Journal. “I really hope that they’re successful here in the near future ’cause I think that would be good for football. They’ve got a lot of guys in the building who are bent on achieving that goal. Just unfortunately I won’t be there, but from my perspective, I don’t leave on bad terms at all.”
In the interview with the Beacon-Journal, Schobert indicates it came down to Jacksonville or the Cincinnati Bengals for his destination upon leaving the Browns.
