SEC cancels spring sports; includes football pro days and spring games

Not only will the remaining 2020 spring sports be cancelled for the rest of the season, so will the SEC Championship games.

On Tuesday morning, the SEC made an official announcement that all regular season conference and non-conference competitions are canceled for the remainder of the 2019-20 athletic year, including all remaining SEC championship events. Not only that, but all spring football games are canceled as well, and there will be no pro days either.

This is heartbreaking news to say the least. Not only will the remaining 2020 spring sports be cancelled for the rest of the season, so will the SEC Championship games.

This also affects football since pro days and all spring games have been cancelled.

The SEC also noted that “other athletics activities, including team and individual practices, meetings and other organized gatherings, whether required or voluntary, remain suspended through at least April 15.”

This is what SEC commissioner Greg Sankey had to say:

“This is a difficult day for all of us, and I am especially disappointed for our student-athletes,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “The health and well-being of our entire conference community is an ongoing priority for the SEC as we continue to monitor developments and information about the COVID-19 virus.”

Also, if you purchased tickets to the SEC softball or baseball tournaments, there will be automatic full ticket refunds by March 31. These refunds are for fans who purchased tickets through an SEC university of the SEC office directly.
