Devin McCourty announces he’s re-signing with Patriots

The captain is returning to the Patriots.

New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty announced he is re-signing with the team on Sunday evening on his podcast, “Double Coverage,” with his brother Jason McCourty. Devin McCourty was slated to enter free agency with an expiring deal, but he is re-signing with a two-year deal for $24 million and $17 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

McCourty, a captain since 2011, has spent his 10 year career with New England, where he’s played 155 games with 26 interceptions, 88 deflections, 772 tackles, 11 forced fumbles and 86 pass deflections. He returns to a Patriots’ depth chart, which includes safeties Duron Harmon and Patrick Chung, among others. They were a part of one of the NFL’s best secondary in 2019.

Devin’s brother Jason is also returning to New England after the Patriots elected to pick up his contract option.
