The NFL’s official Twitter account shared an outstanding highlight reel of Alvin Kamara’s best moments with the New Orleans Saints in 2019 (which you can see where it’s embedded above), but the all-star running back wasn’t impressed. Last season wasn’t up to his high standards, with a series of lower-leg injuries dogging him down the stretch. But he’s anticipating a strong upswing in 2020 now that he’s back to full strength.

Kamara expressed his frustration in a tweet, lamenting that he did so many fun things on the football field with just one leg working right, and at 75% of his usual capabilities. However, he’s optimistic about his fortunes in the season ahead, noting that he’s back to 100% and ready to play his part as a focal point of the Saints offense. And that confidence should inspire Saints fans to feel much the same way.

He played well even at roughly 75% of his old self, as we’ve noted before. 25 different NFL players logged 171 or more rushing attempts last year, but Kamara ranked seventh-best of that group in yards gained per carry (4.7). That puts him in the conversation with players like Lamar Jackson (6.9, leading the pack), Derrick Henry (5.1), Nick Chubb and Mark Ingram (5.0 each), as well as Christian McCaffrey and Josh Jacobs (4.8) as the most-efficient runners in the game, even accounting for volume of opportunities.

And that’s not even considering his abilities in the passing game. If Kamara really is back to 100% health, he should remind the NFL very quickly just how productive he can be.
