Patrick Mahomes on ‘The Shop’: I just learned how to read defenses

The Super Bowl MVP and star of the Kansas City Chiefs says that he just started to understand some of the finer points of QB play.

As if the thought of going against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense wasn’t scary enough for the rest of the NFL, Mahomes made some incredible revelations that will likely have the rest of the NFL more paranoid than ever when it comes to trying to knock the Chiefs off the top of the mountain next season.

Mahomes is one of the featured guests for Saturday night’s Season 3 premiere of HBO/UNINTERRUPTED’s ‘The Shop’ and during the show, he said that he has only played quarterback for six seasons and that he didn’t start understanding how to read defenses until the middle of last season.

So if we are listening clearly, that means that when Mahomes threw for 50 touchdowns and won the NFL MVP award in his first full season as the Chiefs quarterback in 2018, he didn’t even really know what the defenses were running before the play. He was playing purely off of instinct. So if that understanding continues to grow, the Chiefs and Mahomes will be even harder to stop than they already are.
