Report: Giants among teams on Jadeveon Clowney’s wish list

The New York Giants are among the team’s on Jadeveon Clowney’s wish list, but his contract demands may price them out of the market.

Yannick Ngakoue, who is expected to be given the franchise tag in Jacksonville, wants to play for the New York Giants in 2020, and apparently he’s not the only one.

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports that the Giants are also on the wish list of edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

If Dave Gettleman is right, Jadeveon Clowney might be the only elite pass rusher available on the free agent market. And Clowney is interested in playing for the Giants.

According to an NFL source, the Giants are one of the teams on the 27-year-old edge rusher’s wish list as he heads to free agency.

That news is all well and good, but it comes with a hitch. Vacchiano also reports that Clowney is seeking an annual contract of around $22-$23 million annually, which will likely be out of the Giants’ range despite more than $70 million in available salary cap space.

But according to another source, he could be looking at a contract worth $22-23 million per year, which will likely be out of the Giants’ range.

Beyond just the financial aspect of things, the Giants are likely to have some concerns about Clowney’s production in Seattle after being traded from the Houston Texans (just three sacks in 13 games). Beyond that, there are injury issues to contend with — Clowney has played a full 16-game season just once in his career.

While Clowney to the Giants seems like a match made in heaven, it’s one Big Blue Nation may not see unless Clowney comes down on his asking price.
