The offseason rumor mill continues to churn and the ‘Tom Brady to the 49ers’ takes continue to fly.
Amid the latest round of speculation about a quarterback change in San Francisco, tight end George Kittle posted a supportive message to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Instagram:
While this may just be a coincidentally-timed social media post, it’s tough to believe this is a not-so-subtle announcement of what Kittle wants to see at the quarterback position next season.
Typically players don’t have much say in personnel decisions, but Kittle is eligible for a contract extension, and the 2020 season is the final year on his rookie deal, making him an unrestricted free agent in 2021. Making a change at the most important position on the field that runs counter to what the All-Pro tight end wants makes the potential swap even less logical.
Kittle’s extension is already a major story line for the 49ers in the 2020 offseason, and now it becomes even more intriguing if San Francisco winds up going away from Garoppolo.
